Jewelry in America
Munich Jewellery Week is considered to be one of the most significant international celebrations of contemporary jewellery design and is a nexus for collectors, gallerists, curators and jewellery ar
tists from around the world. The 2018 edition took place from 7th to 13th March.
This exhibition of 32 exemplary works by American artists, held at Munich’s prestigious Galerie Wittenbrink, provided a broader representation of contemporary jewelry from the United States in the context of a series of other exhibitions largely dominated by artists from Europe, Scandanavia, and Asia. While essentially confined to objects made between 1980-2018, the show also included two outstanding works by Albert Paley from 1969. The other artists in the exhibition included: Jamie Bennett, Doug Bucci, Sharon Church, Thomas Gentille, William Harper, Robin Kranitzky & Kim Overstreet, Stanley Lechtzin & Daniella Kerner, Eleanor Moty, Judy Onofrio, Marjorie Schick, Kiff Slemmons, and Helen Shirk. Slemmons’ main work in the exhibition, “Pochote Armor” (2018), was acquired by Die Neue Sammlung, Pinakothek der Moderne, Munich, for its permanent collection.
